Ruleset: Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, 3rd Edition - Matched Play and Approved Ops 2025 

 

 

📅 LEAGUE STRUCTURE

Season Breakdown

  • Weeks 1–6: Swiss-style league play

  • Week 7: Final Swiss / Make-Up Week

  • Week 8: Top Cut & Finals Night

Each player is expected to play one match per week in the store.
Flexible scheduling allowed during store hours.

 

 

🎯 MATCH FORMAT

  • Best-of-1

  • 120 minute time limit per match

  • Games use Approved Ops 2025 and current ruleset, errata etc.


 

 

🧾 ROSTER RULES

  • Players must declare:

    • 1 Faction for the entire league

  • Operatives may be swapped freely between games

  • Equipment chosen per match as per standard rules

  • No roster or faction changes after Jan 12th entry deadline

TOOLS OF WAR:

  • Players are expected to bring models representing and representative of their

  • selected Kill Team, Equipment terrain selections, tokens for non-Equipment terrain selections

  • 6 sided dice (d6s), measuring gauges or a tape measure, along with all rules publications relevant to their selected Kill Team.

  • It is recommended that Players also bring a set of Tac Ops cards relevant to their Faction Archetypes. (Tac Ops cards will not be provided).

Kill Team Equipment models are available in either the Kill Team Hivestorm set, or the Kill Team Essentials set. Players may also scratch build or 3D print barricades and other Equipment terrain selections to fit the theme of their Kill Team, as long as they are the same size and dimensions as those found in the Kill Team Essentials box. 

Many Players “scratch build” or heavily convert elements of their model collection, and these activities are a hallowed part of miniatures wargame hobby history. For the sake of fairness, any conversion should be representative of and comparable in size to the most current version of the model they represent. A Player may not gain a benefit from converted models but may incur penalties. For example, if a Player builds a model extra tall with a heroic pose, this does not permit it to gain extra line of sight but does permit it to be more easily seen. Questions regarding scratch-built or custom models may be submitted along with a picture of the associated model to Event Staff at: 


 

 


🧱 TERRAIN & MISSIONS

  • Terrain layouts are fixed. Full terrain info will be available with player packets.

  • Layouts posted at each table

  • Fixed Missions Weeks 1-7 (TBA), random draw from 3-4 Missions for Finals (TBA)

  • Terrain density standardized for competitive balance

 

 

🏆 SCORING SYSTEM

League Points (per match) 3 total possible

  • WIN - 3 points

  • DRAW -1 point

  • LOSE - 0 points

Tie-Breakers

  1. Total Mission VP

  2. Bonus Objectives Scored

  3. TO ruling (if required)

 

 

🎨 PAINTING REQUIREMENTS

  • Painting encouraged


  • Best Painted Kill Team awarded at season end

 

 


🧠 CONDUCT & ETIQUETTE

  • Competitive but respectful play expected

  • Coaching during games is prohibited

  • Intentional slow play will be penalized

  • Rules disputes go directly to the TO — ruling is final

Time Policy

  • If time is called, finish the current Turning Point

  • Score the game immediately

 

 

📝 REPORTING RESULTS

After each match, players must submit:

  • Win / Loss / Draw

  • Final VP score

  • Bonus objectives achieved

  • Sportsmanship score (0–2)

Failure to report may result in point penalties.

🚫 FORFEITS & MISSED GAMES

  • Missed game without notice = Loss

  • Repeated no-shows may result in removal (no refunds will be given for disqualifications)

  • Emergency reschedules allowed with TO approval

  • This league is designed for competitive play

  • Players are expected to know their rules


  • Pairings, rosters and reporting will be handled through Best Coast Pairings and Google Drive
